My Grandmother, Ada had three daughters and the whole family could cook. As a matter of fact my sister Ruth said, “We come from a family of good cooks and fine eaters”. Aunt Bunnie’s oldest daughter (my cousin) sent me this recipe. Sometimes our family recipes are a little short on details, so a basic knowledge or experience helps.

That said, stir occasionally and watch closely toward the end because when the peas turn to mush they stick to the bottom and scorch.

Split Pea Soup

2 qts water

2 cups split peas (1#)

1 stalk celery chopped

1 large carrot chopped

1 small onion chopped

1 teas salt maybe more to taste

pepper not much

Boil ingredients vigorously for 20 min then simmer very slowly till peas disappear and turn to mush.
